After a little more thought…

ISo after a few days of thinking about this vibrator design problem I had a few more thoughts.Slashdong Has been busy adding sensors to an Atmel uC and a motor which all looks quite a fun. Particularly the proximity sensors, however i was wondering about PIR and capacitive (theremin style) sensors would be rather interesting.

On the same site there is mention of sensory replacement. i was wondering if using a system like the Computerized Wooden Mirror could be used to give a blindfolded victim/sub info about the relative position of there captor/dom.

Another idea ambled through my wee head. An eccentrically weighted motor may not the best device to generate the vibrations from a variable source. The motor has inertia and the rotational speed and torque are no where near linear over the sort of ranges in use in this project. My proposed system would consist of 2 solenoids which are connected such that each pulls a free floating core in opposite directions. Also attached to this would be a slider potentiometer to give feedback to the controller on the current position of the core. This feedback could also be achieved by optical means. Another idea might be to use a piezo stack to generate vibes.
